MultiCodex conversation with sample data, a code block, suggested next steps, and project and branch selectors

The problem

I built MultiCodex to organize several Codex agents, accounts, and projects at the same time, without juggling multiple terminals or losing track of tasks. Over time it also came to include a database, a code editor, and other tools, all in one app.

What it does

  • Use several Codex accounts in the same app, each with its own sessions and history.
  • Organize conversations and agents in tabs by project.
  • Open, edit, and save files in the built-in editor, and run commands in independent terminals.
  • Check Git changes, diffs, branches, and commit history.
  • Connect databases and run SQL queries.

The technical decision

I chose Tauri, Rust, and React to build a lightweight desktop app. To keep agents working in parallel from interfering with each other, I use Git worktrees, which isolate each one's changes. I've also started building supervision and task-recovery mechanisms.

A challenge

On Windows, processes started by agents could stay alive after a task ended, and Git information could show up in another project’s context. I fixed how process trees are shut down and scoped Git operations to the active project.

The result

The app is already working and it is what I use to build my systems, with several agents and accounts. It keeps evolving, mainly in automation and orchestration.
